MTN Ghana Warns Customers Against Rising Online Scams

 MTN Ghana, Data

MTN Ghana has issued a public alert urging customers to remain vigilant against increasing cases of online scams and phishing attacks targeting mobile users through WhatsApp messages, SMS links, emails, and fake websites.

In a statement issued in Accra on May 11, the telecommunications company cautioned customers against clicking on suspicious links or responding to messages that request personal or financial information under the guise of account verification, prize claims, or urgent updates.

The company noted that scammers often impersonate trusted institutions, including banks, government agencies, and telecommunications providers, to deceive unsuspecting users into revealing sensitive information.

MTN Ghana advised customers to avoid reacting hastily to unsolicited messages, particularly those that create panic or promise rewards that appear “too good to be true.”

MTN Ghana will never ask for your password, PIN, or full credit card details via a text link or social media message,” the company stressed.

The telecom operator further encouraged users to verify the authenticity of messages independently rather than using contact details provided within suspicious communications.

Customers were also advised to ensure that websites requesting sensitive information display secure indicators such as “https://” and a padlock symbol before entering personal data.

MTN Ghana urged customers who suspect fraudulent activity or believe their information has been compromised to contact customer support through the 100 helpline or report incidents to the police via 0800311311.

E&P takes over Black Volta and Sankofa Gold projects after years of delay

Indigenous mining firm Engineers & Planners (E&P) has acquired Azumah Resources Ghana Ltd and Upwest Resources Ghana Ltd, taking full control of the long-stalled Black Volta and Sankofa gold concessions in the Upper West Region. The transaction, registered with the Registrar of Companies and approved by the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that kept the concessions dormant. With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme. E&P announced that it has secured funding to begin mine development and has committed to repaying verified debts associated with the projects.
