  Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has called for a major change in the way Ghana trades with China, saying the country must move beyond exporting raw materials and focus more on processing and manufacturing locally. Dr. Forson said China had become Ghana’s largest trading partner, but the country was not getting enough value from the relationship because too many exports remained in their raw form. He made the call at the opening of the Fifth Session of the Ghana–China Joint Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation.   Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Saturday vowed “dollar-for-dollar” tariffs in response to the United States’ 50% tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian goods after the two sides failed to reach a trade deal.   Foreign investment projects registered in Ghana in 2025 are expected to create 18,748 jobs when the projects become fully operational, according to the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC). The projected employment opportunities are linked to 254 new investment projects registered during the year, underscoring the potential contribution of foreign capital to job creation and economic activity. The figures are contained in the GIPC’s 2025 Annual Investment Report, which shows that Ghanaians are expected to secure the majority of the projected jobs. According to the report, 90.3% of the jobs are expected to go to Ghanaians, while expatriates are projected to account for the remaining 9.7%.   Parliament is set to resume sitting today, Monday, August 24, following a recall by Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to enable the House to consider urgent parliamentary business. The five-day sitting will run until Friday, August 28, at Parliament House in Accra, with proceedings scheduled to begin at noon today. The recall was issued by the Speaker on Wednesday, August 12, under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament.   The government is set to replace conventional, grid-powered streetlights with solar-powered systems nationwide, in a move aimed at improving the reliability of public lighting and reducing the impact of power supply interruptions on street illumination. Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, said the government had taken a decision to make solar technology the standard for streetlights installed under new road projects and replacement programmes. He explained that unlike grid-connected streetlights, solar-powered units could operate independently, meaning a fault affecting one installation would not necessarily plunge an entire stretch of road into darkness.   The Ghana Chamber of Mines has welcomed the Government’s latest intervention to resolve the impasse surrounding Adamus Resources Limited, describing the agreement as a significant step towards restoring the operations of the mine. In a statement issued in Accra on Friday, August 21, 2026, the Chamber said it supported the agreement to implement a 12-month roadmap aimed at turning around the mine, with the process to be supported by a six-member joint management team. According to the Chamber, the collaborative approach demonstrates the government and stakeholders’ commitment to dialogue, investor confidence and the preservation of productive mining assets. The Chamber said the successful revival of Adamus Resources was particularly important because it is one of Ghana’s few indigenous large-scale mining operations.
