 MTN Ghana, PMEA

MTN Ghana has won six awards at the 2026 National Project Management Conference (NPMC) and Project Management Excellence Awards (PMEA), organised by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana Chapter.

The awards recognised MTN Ghana's work in project delivery, telecommunications infrastructure, technology development, project oversight and leadership.

The awards won by MTN Ghana are:

  • Project of the Year – Winner – Fiber Go-Big FTTH Project
  • Telecom Project of the Year – Winner – Fiber Go-Big FTTH Project
  • PMO of the Year – First Runner-Up – MTN Ghana Transformation Office
  • IT Project of the Year – Second Runner-Up – CS Hardware Expansion Project
  • Project Manager of the Year – Winner – Edward Ohene Antwi Boasiako
  • Project Manager of the Year – First Runner-Up – Manuella Asianoa

The Fiber Go-Big FTTH Project earned MTN Ghana both the Project of the Year and Telecom Project of the Year awards. The project expanded broadband access across six regions of Ghana, exceeding the target for home passed and increasing MTN Ghana’s fibre coverage and homes connected.

The CS Hardware Expansion Project (CIS NextGen) was recognised as the Second Runner-Up for IT Project of the Year. The project upgraded MTN Ghana's customer information systems infrastructure, improving system capacity, reliability and service availability.

MTN Ghana's Transformation Office received the First Runner-Up award in the PMO of the Year category for its role in overseeing projects across the business and ensuring investments deliver the intended results.

Commenting on the achievement, Stephen Blewett, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, said: "These awards are not only about projects. They are about strategy delivered. Every fibre home passed and every system upgraded is a building block of Ambition 2030 — our commitment to lead the delivery of digital solutions for Africa's progress. Ghana's digital economy will be built on infrastructure that works, and that is what disciplined project delivery gives us. My thanks go to our Transformation Office, our project teams and our partners, who continue to turn ambition into something our customers and this country can actually use."

William Tetteh, Chief Transformation Officer of MTN Ghana, said the awards reflect a deliberate discipline behind how we deliver on  the business plans . “Ambition is the easy part. Delivery is key. Exceeding our target did not happen by chance.  It happened because our team planned tightly and ensured no project drifted. That discipline is how  we work, and it is not a one-off effort. Our commitment is simple: deliver  on time, keep holding ourselves accountable, and make sure every cedi we invest shows up in a better for the customer."

The 2026 National Project Management Conference and Project Management Excellence Awards brought together project management professionals, business leaders and industry stakeholders to recognise outstanding achievements in project delivery and discuss the role of project management in supporting business growth and national development.

Fitch Solutions retains 2025 growth rate projection at 4.2%

Fitch Solutions has reaffirmed its projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025. This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%. The UK-based research firm attributes its outlook to historically high gold prices, which are expected to cushion the Ghanaian economy against a global slowdown triggered by rising tariffs. Higher gold prices are anticipated to strengthen government revenue, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and help sustain currency stability. The report also highlights that Ghana is relatively less vulnerable to increasing trade restrictions from the United States, given that its primary exports—gold and crude oil—are not directly affected by the tariffs introduced by President Trump’s administration. Moreover, the US constitutes only about 4% to 5% of Ghana’s total exports. In contrast, Ghana’s trade relations are more heavily oriented toward China and European countries, particul...

BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has injected $20 million into the foreign exchange market in the latest round of its forward FX auction targeted at Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs). The intervention, which benefited eleven BDCs, is part of the central bank’s broader strategy to stabilise the cedi and ensure price stability in the petroleum downstream sector. Held on Tuesday, April 29, the auction was priced at a locked exchange rate of GHS 14.28 to the US dollar, with bid offers ranging from GHS 13.85 to GHS 15.55. This move reflects the BoG’s continued effort to deepen forex liquidity and safeguard the domestic fuel supply chain against volatility in global energy markets. By directly supplying FX to BDCs, the central bank seeks to ease pressure on the interbank market, guarantee the uninterrupted flow of petroleum products, and mitigate the pass-through effects of exchange rate fluctuations on fuel prices. The $20 million disbursement forms part of a $120 million programme for th...
