Chamber of Mines Moves to Protect Jobs, Investments amid Adamus Lease Revocation

Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mining Industry AwardsThe Ghana Chamber of Mines has commenced engagements with Adamus Resources Limited and relevant regulatory authorities following the decision by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to uphold the revocation of the company’s Akango, Salman and Nkroful mining leases.

The Chamber said it was seeking a full understanding of the circumstances, findings and processes that led to the decision before making further substantive comments on the matter.

In a statement, the Chamber acknowledged the authority of government and relevant regulatory institutions to enforce Ghana’s mining laws and ensure responsible, safe and environmentally sustainable mining.

At the same time, it stressed that the enforcement of mining regulations must be anchored in due process, fairness and the consistent application of the law.

Equally, the Chamber believes that adherence to the rule of law, due process, fairness, regulatory certainty and the consistent application of the law is fundamental to maintaining confidence in Ghana’s mining industry,” the Chamber said.

The Chamber said it was particularly concerned about the potential implications of the lease revocation for workers, contractors, host communities and legitimate investments associated with Adamus Resources.

It said safeguarding livelihoods and investments must be balanced with the need to ensure that mining companies comply fully with Ghana’s laws and regulatory requirements.

The Chamber is particularly mindful of the need to safeguard workers and their livelihoods, contractors, host communities and legitimate investments in Ghana, while ensuring that the country’s laws and regulatory requirements are fully respected,” it stated.

The Chamber therefore urged all parties involved to continue using established legal and institutional channels to resolve any outstanding issues.

It said it would allow the ongoing engagements and regulatory processes to proceed before commenting further on the substantive issues surrounding the revocation.

We therefore encourage all parties to continue to act within the framework of Ghana’s laws and established regulatory processes and to pursue any outstanding matters through the appropriate legal and institutional channels,” the Chamber said.

The Ghana Chamber of Mines reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with government, its member companies and other stakeholders to promote a responsible, transparent and predictable mining sector.

The Chamber said its objective remained to support a competitive mining industry that protects Ghana’s national interest, safeguards jobs and legitimate investments, and sustains investor confidence.

The Ghana Chamber of Mines remains committed to constructive dialogue with Government, its member companies and all stakeholders towards ensuring a responsible, transparent, predictable and competitive mining industry that protects Ghana’s national interest, safeguards jobs and legitimate investment, and sustains investor confidence.”

Fitch Solutions retains 2025 growth rate projection at 4.2%

Fitch Solutions has reaffirmed its projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025. This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%. The UK-based research firm attributes its outlook to historically high gold prices, which are expected to cushion the Ghanaian economy against a global slowdown triggered by rising tariffs. Higher gold prices are anticipated to strengthen government revenue, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and help sustain currency stability. The report also highlights that Ghana is relatively less vulnerable to increasing trade restrictions from the United States, given that its primary exports—gold and crude oil—are not directly affected by the tariffs introduced by President Trump’s administration. Moreover, the US constitutes only about 4% to 5% of Ghana’s total exports. In contrast, Ghana’s trade relations are more heavily oriented toward China and European countries, particul...

BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has injected $20 million into the foreign exchange market in the latest round of its forward FX auction targeted at Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs). The intervention, which benefited eleven BDCs, is part of the central bank’s broader strategy to stabilise the cedi and ensure price stability in the petroleum downstream sector. Held on Tuesday, April 29, the auction was priced at a locked exchange rate of GHS 14.28 to the US dollar, with bid offers ranging from GHS 13.85 to GHS 15.55. This move reflects the BoG’s continued effort to deepen forex liquidity and safeguard the domestic fuel supply chain against volatility in global energy markets. By directly supplying FX to BDCs, the central bank seeks to ease pressure on the interbank market, guarantee the uninterrupted flow of petroleum products, and mitigate the pass-through effects of exchange rate fluctuations on fuel prices. The $20 million disbursement forms part of a $120 million programme for th...
