MTN Ghana Supports 89th Ada Asafotufiami Festival with GH¢30,000 Donation

MTN Ghana, Ada Asafotufiami FestivalMTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to the preservation of Ghana’s cultural heritage with a donation of GH¢30,000 to support the 89th Ada Asafotufiami Festival.

The company also presented airtime valued at GH¢2,000 and drink hampers to the festival planning committee as part of its longstanding partnership with the Ada Traditional Area.

The presentation was made by Francis Gyang, Sales Manager for MTN Ghana’s Southeast Business District, who said the company considered the festival an important platform for celebrating Ada’s history, culture and unity.

According to him, MTN Ghana’s support for the festival has continued for 19 consecutive years, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the communities in which it operates.

For 19 years running, MTN has stood beside the Ada Traditional Area during this festival, and that consistency is not by accident. It reflects who we are as a brand: a company that measures its success not only in networks and numbers, but also in the lives we touch and the communities we help build,” Mr Gyang said.

He noted that the 89th anniversary was significant not only to the people of Ada but also to MTN Ghana, which is celebrating 30 years of operations in Ghana.

Gyang said the two milestones provided an opportunity for MTN to reflect on its relationship with the people of Ada and the wider Ghanaian community.

He described the Asafotufiami Festival as more than a traditional celebration, saying it had evolved into a major platform for cultural preservation, tourism, community engagement and development.

This festival is far more than a date on the calendar. It is a living record of your history, a display of your resilience, and a reminder of what unity can build,” he said.

Gyang said MTN Ghana’s support extended beyond the donation, announcing that the company would establish experience centres at strategic locations during the festivities.

The centres, he explained, would enable customers to access MTN services, receive assistance and engage directly with the company throughout the celebration.

He said the initiative would also allow MTN to listen to customers and better understand their concerns.

Gyang further assured the chiefs and people of Ada that MTN would continue to strengthen its partnership with traditional authorities across the country as part of its broader community engagement efforts.

When we invest in the custodians of our culture, we invest in the future of our communities,” he stated.

He expressed appreciation to the chiefs, elders and people of Ada for their continued trust and loyalty to MTN Ghana and wished the Traditional Area a successful 89th Asafotufiami Festival.

The donation forms part of MTN Ghana’s wider efforts to support cultural, social and community initiatives across the country as the company marks three decades of operations in Ghana.

Fitch Solutions retains 2025 growth rate projection at 4.2%

Fitch Solutions has reaffirmed its projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025. This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%. The UK-based research firm attributes its outlook to historically high gold prices, which are expected to cushion the Ghanaian economy against a global slowdown triggered by rising tariffs. Higher gold prices are anticipated to strengthen government revenue, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and help sustain currency stability. The report also highlights that Ghana is relatively less vulnerable to increasing trade restrictions from the United States, given that its primary exports—gold and crude oil—are not directly affected by the tariffs introduced by President Trump’s administration. Moreover, the US constitutes only about 4% to 5% of Ghana’s total exports. In contrast, Ghana’s trade relations are more heavily oriented toward China and European countries, particul...

BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has injected $20 million into the foreign exchange market in the latest round of its forward FX auction targeted at Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs). The intervention, which benefited eleven BDCs, is part of the central bank’s broader strategy to stabilise the cedi and ensure price stability in the petroleum downstream sector. Held on Tuesday, April 29, the auction was priced at a locked exchange rate of GHS 14.28 to the US dollar, with bid offers ranging from GHS 13.85 to GHS 15.55. This move reflects the BoG’s continued effort to deepen forex liquidity and safeguard the domestic fuel supply chain against volatility in global energy markets. By directly supplying FX to BDCs, the central bank seeks to ease pressure on the interbank market, guarantee the uninterrupted flow of petroleum products, and mitigate the pass-through effects of exchange rate fluctuations on fuel prices. The $20 million disbursement forms part of a $120 million programme for th...
